Women: Not Good Enough?

“It’s not vanity to feel you have a right to be beautiful. Women are taught to feel we’re not good enough, that we must live up to someone else’s standards. But my aim is to cherish myself as I am.”

-Elle Macpherson

  1. I wish someone would’ve told me this before I got hair plugs.

    • Too funny. Your blog is really well written. I love it! Now following. Yea, you don’t need hair plugs. Armanti cologne…works everytime and women love it!

  2. Ah right, she would be the beautiful slim blonde model if I recall rightly (I may not as I have no interest in those)? Nothing wrong with the first part of the sentiment. Just the second part sounds a tiny bit selfish. How about: ‘I want to see blah blah for all women in the world and not just cherish myself?’

    • This was actually a quote by another writer. I thought it expressed how American women are often brought up in our culture to never feel “good enough.”
      Thank you for commenting!

    • Just to clarify on this post: I see the author of this quote as meaning:

Women never feel good enough about themselves. Our culture teaches women that we are never good enough, or can ever be enough. Women nowadays are expected to be Super Women. Our expectations are set so high in America, who could reach them?

The end of the quote the author is trying to say that it is ok to be “good enough” to ones self. In other words, your life is not always doing what other people expect of you. The author was not being selfish.

The author is/was gracefully & artistically giving advice to women. The advice being, you are good enough.

  3. Selfish my a**. I’m supposed to be independent all the time….I’m starting a girl club,…where even the pretty ones get invited??? As a pretty blonde, slash red head, slash blue hair. slash big ass….women should be lift each other up…otherwise we continue to perpetuate a “slave mentality”….”Keep them fighting amongst themselves…that way they are easier to control”…..someone’s been watching too much of the tele, me thinks???

    • Well, JFox1221. My Mother always said, “don’t ever depend on no man!” I depend on my husband for many things However, I keep my individuality and independence. My Mother trained me well.
